bad metaphor

the meandering, plotless story of my life.

Gwyneth Paltrow is the new Angelina Jolie

without comments

Via Gawker, via Copyranter:

gwyneth the african princess

Gwyneth Paltrow, Hollywood fake-British-girl, lately fake African princess

Oof. I’m not sure what to make of this. At first I cringed when seeing this, and doubly so, as Gwyneth kind of irritates me anyways (Gwen, you’re so not British, shut up!). Thinking about it some more, I do have to give them credit for recognizing the American public’s tendency to pay selective attention to pretty white women, and exploiting that fact for charity.

And by hell, it’s actually working. I wouldn’t have found out about this campaign, had this poster not popped up on Gawker. It’s Gwyneth’s face being posted all over the “blogosphere”, not the less attractive, swollen-bellied, unmarketable African children. Uncomfortable issues of positionality and “poserdom” aside, it’s advertising genius.
