Failure at Reading Comprehension

with 3 comments

Both my roommate and I graduated with degrees in English, cum laude. My roommate has been accepted by Stanford University’s renowned graduate English program. We are both generally pretty good at reading. This is why I have yet go get over the sheer irony of the revelation, which happened yesterday, that we both fundamentally failed to correctly interpret our lease.

We were laboring (or, rather, not) under the impression that we had until the end of July to move out. In fact, we have just three days. (Four days was yesterday. Three today. Two tomorrow. Ahhhh!)

Panic, anyone?

  1. ?! Oh no!!

Can you contact your landlord and ask for one more month?

  2. Well, when I found out, I asked if I could just pay for an extra month. They’ve rented out the place to people already. :( Seriously, what kind of stupid lease ends on June 30th? Our friend who lives in the same complex moves out July 31st (he checked his lease). I think we just stupidly assumed that our lease was a standard 12 month lease like everyone else’s, instead of an 11 month one. Wtf.

  3. Wow, it’s only 11 months? It’s a good thing you noticed it!!
